Indulge in a regionally-inspired, in-the-field photography + food experience, a fusion of the senses.
Immersed in an awe-inspiring landscape, we want you to take more than a photographed memory home with you, we want you to remember the experience for a lifetime. As you journey through the photography workshop, you’ll see resonating places that vitalize the creators of this trip. Landscapes dawned in impressive light, native plants that grow in this extreme terrain, the smell of fresh pine, and mouth-watering meals energized by the region’s food sources await you.
Shoulder to shoulder with experts in their fields, you’ll see first-hand how to create jaw-dropping images from the Rocky Mountain Photo Adventures team as they point out native plants foraged to make your plate at Canmore’s newest farm to table, or as we like to call it forage to table experience at The Sensory.

We make our way to Two Jack Lake, our first location to capture sunrise/early morning light. Two Jack Lake is the premier photography location for photographing early morning light. The sounds of loons can often be heard over the calm waters of this special lake.
After Two Jack Lake, we head over to Vermilion Lakes to capture the unique beauty of the lakes there. Fed by hotspring water from both ends of the valley, Vermilion Lakes is a hot bed of wildlife, marshes and shallow lakes. The photographic possibilities here are endless.
Once we've wrapped up Vermilion Lakes, we will make our way along the 1A highway towards Castle Mountain. Along the way, there are opportunities to see elusive wildlife that makes this area of the park a sought after scenic drive. Not only are there chances to see bear, wolves and the ever elusive moose, the highway boasts lots of natural heritage and diversity with patches of montane forests and rugged peaks. We may make stops along the way to investigate the plethora of food that naturally grows here. From mushrooms to wildflowers, our trip to Castle along this road will give you a taste of our fantastic meal to come.
Arriving at Castle Mountain junction, our last stop, the Bow river sweeps by with a high current of glacial waters from its source, the Bow Glacier. Castle mountain dominates our skyline with impressive hues of red and yellow. This mountain is one of my favourites to photograph. Sometimes challenging to fit the magnitude of this scene in your camera's viewfinder, its beauty can be underestimated by the casual tourist. Here we will explore camera techniques that can transform how you see the Canadian Rockies and capture images that go beyond first impressions.
After finishing photographing Castle Mountain we make our way to the Sensory Restaurant located in the city of Canmore. This roughly 40 minute drive is a great opportunity to build up your appetite for the incredible meal to come! Our dining experience will last roughly an hour and a half. During our meal, there will be some interpretation of the food provided by the Sensory. After our appetites have been satisfied, our guide will bring you back to your hotel in Canmore. If the private group is in Banff, we will then make our way back to the town of Banff for drop off at your hotel.
Choose from two experiences:
EARLY MORNING LIGHT SUNRISE PHOTOGRAPHY TOUR
Rise before the shine and capture the sun as it appears from behind the towering peaks of the Canadian Rockies. Built for the always-eager photographer, who knows the perfect shot doesn’t come without a little hard work and effort, our guides will take you out to the best, most coveted spots to get your own iconic photos of Banff National Park.
MID-MORNING PHOTOGRAPHY TOUR
National Park from a local’s perspective and capture some of the best memories of your trip and the surrounding landscape, this is your tour. And don’t worry, we get it, you might need your morning coffee before figuring out your camera settings, so this tour leaves a little later in the morning than our sunrise tour.
THE SENSORY RESTAURANT
Head Chef, Tracy Little’s approach to food comes from her background growing up in Northern Alberta where she learned to hunt, forage, and fish. These skills taught her how to survive off the land and she brings this resourceful twist to the menu at The Sensory. Taking inspiration from the landscape that surrounds its location in Canmore, Alberta gives you a fresh, local taste of what the region has to offer. You won’t get much closer to the source than the breakfast or brunch sampling after your tour.

Will we be doing lots of hiking?
Fortunately, Banff National Park has the best landscape photography opportunities very close to where we will park the tour van. We do not need to hike very far from the tour van to get amazing landscape images!
I won't have a tripod with me. Is that OK?
No worries! We have tripods available for you to use during the session if you wish to use one. Although we highly recommend using a tripod, it is not necessary. If you are curious about how to best use a tripod, our photography guides can help you set up your tripod and instruct on how to best utilize one.
