As the snowflakes descend and cast a white blanket over the land, the stunning landscape of the Canadian Rocky Mountains is transformed into a magical wonderland. Join Rocky Mountain Photo Adventures as we help you learn how to photograph nature's awe-inspiring handiwork throughout Banff National Park.

Learn how to improve your landscape photography skills in a world class destination! We will share our expertise in the field, help you develop a method to create great compositions and understand the best use of camera filters and settings to achieve professional quality images.

The adventure begins with photographing the iconic Mount Rundle and Vermilion Lakes at sunrise and ends at the world-renowned Abraham Lake situated in the remote and wild landscape of the Kootenay Plains to photograph the infamous ice bubbles and unique ice formations at sunset. Our journey takes us along the renowned  Bow Valley Parkway and Icefields Parkway through Banff National Park turning onto the David Thompson highway far off the beaten tourist track photographing along the way to Abraham Lake, our final destination. Our guides are local landscape photographers and are highly rated on TripAdvisor, Our warm personality and in-depth knowledge will increase your potential to capture incredible images of this winter wonderland.

This tour is open to all photography skill levels from complete beginner to advanced. Photography locations may involve a short hike through snow and participants should be prepared for this and the below freezing temperatures of this mid-winter tour. All you need is a willingness to get outside in the winter and learn the art of winter landscape photography.

Time & Location

Pick up Location: Banff  *We will pick you up from your hotel if it is within the town of Banff.
Pick up time: 7:30 AM  *approx. depending on the hotel and date of the tour. Exact pickup times will be confirmed the day before your trip)
Return time: 7:00 PM  *We will try and have you back around 7:00 PM but please be flexible with times due to conditions and location of guests.)

*What to bring

  • DSLR camera
  • Wide angle lens (full frame around 16mm and cropped sensor around 10mm)
  • Tripod (sturdy and able to work in sub-zero temperatures)
  • Additional camera batteries (optional)
  • Cable camera release (wireless ones often fail in winter conditions!!!)
  • Warm clothes (average temperature in January is between -6°C and -16°C. Standing still photographing on ice and snow will make you cold quick!)
  • Hat & gloves
  • Waterproof winter boots

 

*These items are not required but do help. We also provide a couple of tripods to use in case you do not have one with you.
